My 2nd Coming Out Story

My second coming out story
And trust me my first one was a lot more “normal”!
In fact, I never thought this second one would ever be told. Leave it to James and Claudia Altucher to get the story out!
It all started with Claudia and James asking each other one day on an episode of their well-known Ask Altucher Podcast if they knew anyone homeless. And both said no.
I immediately sent Claudia an email with the subject line: You do know someone homeless
You see 154 days ago I started Claudia’s book Becoming An Idea Machine. Each day has an exercise of coming up with a specific list of ten items, based on the exercises she created in the book. And ever since Day 1 I have tweeted my daily exercise to Claudia, along with posting it on this website. We had even emailed several times.
But she had no idea.
The email I wrote started a very engaging and thought-provoking dialogue between James and Claudia, and myself.
And they ended up interviewing me for their Ask Altucher Podcast. That interview was my second coming out.
Here is the link to the interview: Ep 291 Living Location Independent (aka Homeless)
As this was never something I intended the world to know.
I wasn’t doing anything wrong. But I was living my life in a way that was so far outside the norm that I didn’t even want most of my friends to know.
Kind of like when you come out from the closet. (Which for me was a piece of cake compared to this! Hence my second coming out!)
You know you are not doing anything wrong and that you are just following your heart. But somewhere in the back of your mind, there is this little voice that says “this isn’t normal so don’t let anyone know”.
But now I can breathe a sigh of relief. No more having to “cover” for where I am or what I am up to!
Sure, there are still a lot of people out there that will not understand me or this way of living.
But that is fine. As we ALL have our own roads to travel in life!
And for me, it is all about getting the book I’mPossible | Women of The Volvo Ocean Race finished.
So I hope that you listen to the podcast and let me know what you think. You can tweet me at @maja_gray
So next time you start up a conversation with a stranger, remember that every single one of us has an amazing story inside. Even you.
But so few take the time to engage in a conversation to unearth that story.
And lastly. Don’t ever stop following your own dreams. Choose Yourself and be you!
Everyone else is already taken.
And no matter what happens...you can always draw yourself some flowers.
